What
OPEN GOES COP is a coalition of organisations and individuals formed in 2024 to advocate for openness in the context of the UN Climate Change Conferences (COP). We aim to overcome the lack of discussion on the role of ‘openness’ as a necessary condition for addressing the climate crisis and to build the capacity of open movement activists and stakeholders from civil society and academia to influence high-level decisions on related issues.
Some of our goals are:
- Catalyze conversation around the importance of openness to addressing climate change.
- Build capacity among open movement members to advocate for openness in COP.
- Build momentum around how the open movement can be instrumental in climate action.
- Support community-driven climate action initiatives at a local level.
- Make information about COP processes freely available as well as clear ways to engage with such materials.
- Activate COP negotiators so that thematic areas such as open data, open standards, shared governance, transparency (and more) are added as key terms mentioned by COP documentation.
Who
At this early stage, the coalition is convened by Wiki Green Initiatives, Open Knowledge Network, Open Climate Campaign, and Open Data Charter.

How
We are currently holding monthly webinars to strengthen the coalition, learn from each other and find the best way to work together.
You can follow the webinars and other updates here.
If you’re working at the intersection of openness and climate change, please join us at one of our upcoming meetings! It will only work if more people and organisations get involved.
