OPEN GOES COP attended this year’s largest global gathering of open movement activists and organisations, Wikimania 2024, organised by the Wikimedia Foundation in Katowice, southern Poland.

The ‘Open as a Prerequisite for Solving the Climate Crisis’ panel brought together organisations that are collaborating on projects and initiatives to profile the role of open in solving the climate crisis. We presented successes to date, highlighted upcoming projects and invited participation in our community-orientated movement.

We believe that open access to climate change research will enable faster and more equitable solutions to the most pressing issues of our time: climate change and biodiversity loss. The panel presented a case study of global open access policies and highlighted our experiences in making climate research open access seminal.
